Marta Bassino had a bad fall and risks losing her season before she even makes her debut. The 29-year-old from Borgo San Dalmazzo was exercising with the national squad in Val Senales when she fell to the ground and sustained a lateral fracture of the tibial plateau in her left leg. The accident happened on the second lap of downhill skiing on the Leo Gurschler slope. The Italian was immediately treated by FISI medical professionals before being sent to Merano Hospital, where radiological testing confirmed the diagnosis. A subsequent CT scan confirmed the need for surgery, which will be performed in the coming hours at the La Madonnina Clinic by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, president of the FISI Medical Commission. Bassino's injury will cause her to miss the giant slalom at Soelden on Saturday, October 25, and gravely jeopardizes her participation in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
