World Pasta Day, the global celebration of Italy's classic pasta, returns on October 25th. Unione Italiana Food and the International Pasta Organisation (IPO) initiated the event to commemorate a product that, more than any other, embodies gastronomic culture and national identity. According to figures released on the eve of the 2025 edition, global pasta production has surpassed 17 million tons, with Italy maintaining its global lead with 4.2 million tons produced in 2024. This record is not only economic, but also cultural: for 96.6% of Italians, pasta represents the true essence of Made in Italy. A recent survey confirmed that pasta is an integral part of the collective sense of belonging: it ranks among the top five things that make Italians most proud, right after monuments (84.9%), art (75.8%), natural landscapes (73.6%), and literature (69.2%), but ahead of music (39.6%), opera (34.6%), and sports (27.3%). With an average consumption of 23.3 kilograms per person per year, Italians remain the largest pasta consumers in the world. Nearly 60% of national production is exported to over 200 countries.
