During the 20th Rome Film Festival, researchers from Policlinico Agostino Gemelli IRCCS and the Catholic University presented the findings of two cinetherapy projects. They discovered that the anxiety and stress associated with hospitalization and illness can be substantially diminished by viewing a positive film and discussing emotions with therapists afterward. On the eighth floor of the Gemelli Hospital, there is a nice cinema theater created exclusively for hospitalized patients, who can even enter from their beds. Over nine years, it has screened 900 films — from regular programming to previews and special events — including movies from the Rome Film Festival, often introduced by directors and cast members who greet and interact with the patient-audience.
