After the decision to cancel the La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona, which was supposed to be played in Miami, the possible transfer of the Serie A match between Milan and Como to Perth, Australia, scheduled for February 2026, has also come under scrutiny. The idea of playing an Italian league match on the other side of the world has divided players and insiders. Some AC Milan players, including Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot, have already declared their opposition to the idea. Coach Massimiliano Allegri has been more cautious, saying in a press conference: "If it's played in Italy, all the better. Otherwise, we will travel to Australia. The key thing is that the decision is made quickly so that we can organize ourselves". The meeting between AC Milan and Como is scheduled for February, when the San Siro stadium will be unavailable due to the Winter Olympics. For this reason, the potential relocation of the match to Perth was contemplated; however, the Guardian reports that this is becoming less likely, despite UEFA's initial approval. UEFA, among other things, appreciated the cancellation of the La Liga match in Florida, viewing it as compatible with its policy of supporting domestic leagues. A hypothetical Serie A "cross-the-sea trip" requires approval not only from UEFA, but also from the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), the Australian Football Association, and FIFA. According to the Guardian, the AFC is already under significant pressure to reject authorization. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has allegedly expressed doubt, calling the idea of playing league matches on other continents "a significant risk" for world soccer.
