Nerino Grassi, the president and creator of Golden Lady, a Mantua-based hosiery, underwear, and textiles company, died at the age of 94. The entrepreneur died peacefully at home in Castiglione delle Stiviere, surrounded by his loved ones, according to a corporate statement. Grassi was born in Medole, Mantua, in 1931 into a miller's family. In the 1960s, he chose to relocate the business to Castiglione delle Stiviere, where he launched Golden Lady in 1966 with his wife Erminia Speranzini—who died in 2021—to become one of the most prominent Italian industrial enterprises in the hosiery sector. Grassi's entrepreneurial vision and determination helped him grow a modest local business into an international corporation with around 3,500 workers and products exported all over the world. His journey accompanied the growth of the Mantuan hosiery district, contributing to one of the most significant chapters in Italy’s industrial history.
