Like every year, Lonely Planet returns to inspire travelers with the new edition of ‘Best in Travel’, a guide to the most interesting destinations to visit in 2026. This year's model has changed: instead of rigorous rankings, there are 50 choices in total, divided into 25 must-see destinations and 25 unique experiences chosen by the authors and the renowned publishing house's international team. The spectrum includes Tajikistan's glacial valleys and turquoise lakes, Botswana's authentic safaris, Tunisia's Great Eastern Erg dunes, and the Azores' whales and dolphins. Sardinia, Italy's representative, was chosen not only for its crystal-clear water, but also for the natural charm of its interior, which includes Nuragic archeological sites and new cycling and hiking trails. Mexico City stands out among urban destinations for its outstanding museums and innovative districts, which attract young people from all over the world. In Europe, attention is focused on County Tipperary, located in the heart of Ireland, where castles, rich green landscapes, and excellent cuisine reveal the island's true side. There are plenty of faraway surprises, such as the Ikara-Flinders Ranges in Australia's Outback, a natural amphitheater of astounding beauty, or Sri Lanka, where culture and cuisine combine to create a complete sensory journey. For adventure lovers, Lonely Planet suggests spending a night in a railway carriage in South Africa’s Kruger National Park or traveling through Peru, among ancient ruins, modern cities, and newly protected natural areas.
