Nearly €3 billion worth of assets belonging to Russian oligarchs have been frozen in Italy: vast real-estate holdings on Lake Como; noble residences in Rome — such as Villa Serena in the Parioli district — in Portofino, and along the Costa Smeralda. Then there are the ultra-luxury yachts, most notably the Scheherazade, which was intercepted in Marina di Carrara and is worth €650 million. The Italian government, through the Ministry of Economy's Financial Security Committee, ordered a freeze on the assets, enforcing EU regulations against the Putin regime. Those affected include tycoons of steel, energy, and finance. Among them, brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg — close allies of the Russian president — whose properties in Viterbo province (€625,000) and Arzachena, in the province of Sassari (€3.7 million), were seized by the Finance Police. Also, Aurora 31, a centrally located ultra-luxury hotel in Rome, has had its share capital frozen. Then there's Gennady Timchenko, a longtime judo friend who security agencies consider an "ally" of Putin. His €50 million mega yacht was intercepted by the Guardia di Finanza while anchored in Sanremo's harbor. Alisher Usmanov’s properties, worth €17 million in Golfo del Pevero (Sardinia), six financial companies, and real estate worth €66 million have also been frozen. And these are just some of the dozens of Russian oligarchs targeted.
