The summer of 2025 once again highlights the plight of Trentino’s glaciers. Based on summer measurements, the yearly mass balance shows thickness losses ranging from 65 centimeters to 2.10 meters of water equivalent, indicating an unfavorable season for glacier conservation. Despite some high-altitude summer snowfalls, only the highest glacier surfaces partially limited melting, while those at lower elevations experienced severe mass loss. The surveys were carried out by the Forecasting and Planning Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento in collaboration with the Glaciological Commission of the SAT (Trentino Mountaineering Society), the MUSE (National Institute of European Studies), the Lombardy Glaciological Service, and the University of Padua.
