Shock at the Paris Masters 1000: World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has been knocked out in his opening match. The Spaniard fell to Britain’s Cameron Norrie, who came from behind to win 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 after two hours and twenty-five minutes of play. The upset opens the door for Jannik Sinner, who could reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings if he goes all the way in Paris — right before the season-ending Finals. Returning to competition after his Tokyo triumph and runner-up finish at the Six Kings Slam, Alcaraz had a rough night, committing 54 unforced errors, most of them in the final two sets. It’s the first time since March (Miami) that the US Open champion has lost before a final. Alcaraz will wrap up his season at the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup, but his No. 1 position is now at risk. Meanwhile, Sinner — fresh off his Vienna title — starts his Paris campaign against Belgium’s 26-year-old Zizou Bergs. Ironically, just days ago, Sinner said he didn’t expect to return to the top of men’s tennis before 2026.
