In Rome, the Villa Glori park (25 hectares in the Parioli area) will reopen on October 30th following major restoration and repair. This initiative restores the dignity and beauty of one of the capital's most cherished green areas. Villa Glori, located on Monte Cacciarello between the Tiber, the Auditorium Parco della Musica, and the neighborhoods of Parioli and Flaminio, is more than just a park. Its history is one of transformation: it was first agricultural land, then the site of a heroic occurrence in the Risorgimento, then a summer camp for children and a campground in the 1950s, before becoming an AIDS reception center. Today, it is also a park of contemporary sculpture. The restoration work was inspired by the park’s original design by architect Raffaele De Vico (1881–1969). Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri used the park's reopening to highlight the ambitious urban reforestation initiative, the largest ever undertaken in Rome, which includes the planting of one million new trees.
