Italians maintain a good attitude toward saving: the number of families that have managed to save part of their income remains high, while those who rely on loans or accumulated savings is decreasing. This is the conclusion of the poll "Italians and Savings", which was carried out on the occasion of the 100th World Savings Day. The concept of saving is generally regarded as a positive concept among Italians, with 38% of them associating it with peace of mind, 17% with protection, 14% with wisdom, and 12% with development. Additionally, one in four Italians associate saving with a projection into the future. At the same time, for one in four Italians, saving today — though slightly less than a year ago — involves making sacrifices (26% vs. 29% in 2023). Three out of four Italians face unexpected expenses with their own resources and relative peace of mind: 76% of families are able to cope with unplanned expenses of €1,000 (77% in 2023). Given the general improvement in economic conditions, the proportion of families able to cover substantial unexpected expenses is increasing: 38% would be able to cover unforeseen expenses of €10,000 with their own resources, up slightly from 36% in 2023. The majority of these families are Italians residing in the Northeast, between the ages of 45 and 65. They are either retired or members of the managerial class, and they generally report feeling more content with their financial situation.
