In the past six years, from 2019 to today, comic book sales in bookstores, online, and in supermarkets have tripled in both copies sold and total value. It has been Italy's fastest growing genre. While 2.14 million comics were sold in the first nine months of 2019, with a sales value of €20.1 million, by 2025, sales had increased to 6.28 million copies, equivalent to €59.5 million in consumer expenditure, demonstrating a 193% increase in copies and 196% increase in value. Behind these summary data, there are significant changes in reading and purchasing habits that cover both market segments—manga, children's comics, graphic novels, and so on—as well as dynamics in comparison to other genres. Manga, in particular, have played a central role in this boom, capturing an ever-larger share of the market and bringing comic books greater visibility in bookstores.
