Italian exports to countries outside the EU increased by 9.9% in September. The trend toward Washington was once again decisive, with an increase of more than 34%. Nevertheless, exports to the United States were significantly affected by exceptional factors, notably one-time ship orders. The pharmaceutical industry also performed well, growing by more than 60% in eight months. Despite tariffs and global tensions, trade with Washington remains clearly positive (+9.5% between January and September), with pharmaceuticals as the leading driver. Growth towards the United States totaled €4.1 billion. Aside from the United States, Italian exports performed well in non-EU markets this month, with rises in China, India, and Japan. Switzerland, the Middle East, and sections of Africa also experienced expansion. The few declines involved Turkey (due mainly to the end of last year’s gold rush in Arezzo), Russia, and the United Kingdom. September showed a significant gain in purchasing power (+16.9%), especially in the US, where values increased by more than 70%. Italy's purchases from China also increased significantly, by 32.3%.
