The signing of the San Siro ownership transfer has been postponed as the banks involved finalize the necessary financial guarantees. The notarial deed, which will officially transfer ownership of the iconic Milan stadium to a new company jointly owned by AC Milan and Inter, is now expected to be signed on Wednesday, according to Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala.
The delay, Sala clarified, is not due to the city administration or the clubs, but rather to the technical time required for the credit institutions to approve the guarantees backing the deal. The €100 million transaction includes the initial installment of the purchase price (including VAT) and a portion of the existing debts owed by the two clubs to the municipality.
The city must receive the funds from the banking consortium financing the acquisition before the signing can proceed. The timeline remains tight: November 10 marks a crucial deadline, after which architectural protection could be imposed on the second tier of the Meazza, preventing its demolition.
Meanwhile, opposition to the project is growing. Several local groups opposed to the sale and demolition of San Siro have filed a petition with the National Council of Notaries in Rome, requesting the suspension of the transaction. The document questions the exact date on which the heritage protection—which takes effect 70 years after construction—would become binding and raises concerns about a potential financial loss for the city.
