The world of motorsport mourns Andrea de Adamich, a former Formula 1 driver and one of Italy’s most respected television voices. Born in Friuli in 1941, he began racing in 1962 and quickly made a name for himself. After winning the Italian Formula 3 championship in 1965, he joined Alfa Romeo, claiming two European Touring Car titles (1966 and 1967) behind the wheel of the Giulia GTA. Between 1968 and 1973 he competed in Formula 1 with Ferrari, McLaren, March, Surtees and Brabham, while also taking part in the World Sportscar Championship, where he earned two wins with Alfa Romeo. After retiring in 1974, de Adamich reinvented himself as a beloved TV commentator for Mediaset, covering motorsport from 1978 to 2009 alongside Guido Schittone. In 1991 he founded the Centro Internazionale Guida Sicura, continuing his partnership with Alfa Romeo to promote safe-driving education. For his lifelong contribution to Italian sport, he was awarded the title of Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2022.
