The Italian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that contact has been reestablished with the five Italian hikers who had been reported missing while trekking in Nepal. All five — residents of the province of Como — are safe and in good condition. The Italian Consulate General in Kolkata, responsible for the area, announced that the group has been located and intends to continue its itinerary before returning to Kathmandu on November 8. Concerns arose following two tragic accidents in the same region over recent days, in which two Italian climbers died during a snowstorm and a third was killed by an avalanche. Two other Italians remain missing. All were part of expeditions climbing Nepal’s Himalayan peaks.
