New discovery in Pompeii. A glass paste situla (vase) with Egyptian-style hunting scenes, made in Alexandria, Egypt, has resurfaced among the remains of the Regio V Thermopolium, named the "street food" of antiquity and partially excavated in 2020/21. The container, commonly located in the Vesuvian region and valued as an ornamental feature in gardens and elegant settings, was evidently repurposed here as a vessel for cooking. Analysis subsequent to the ongoing restoration efforts may elucidate its contents. Excavations initiated in 2023 within Regio V of Pompeii, undertaken to enhance the preservation of chambers contiguous to the Thermopolium, have brought to light the service areas and the modest upper-floor apartment inhabited by the facility's managers. On the ground floor, in the cooking area, archaeologists found in situ tools used for food preparation—mortars, pans—and numerous wine amphorae of Mediterranean origin.
