Masterpieces of twentieth-century Italian art will be auctioned in Milan on November 13. Pandolfini Auction House on Via Manzoni will present works by Burri, de Chirico, Guttuso, Turcato, Ligabue, Campigli, Casorati, and other prominent artists. Among the most esteemed lots is Giorgio de Chirico's The Great Tower (early 1970s), a work from his mature period in which the artist revisited his most iconic themes—metaphysical squares, suspended architecture, horses, and ancient statues—bringing them forth with renewed intensity and heightened formal precision. Another highlight is the previously unseen 'Sad Self-Portrait' by Antonio Ligabue, from the collection of Bruno Bertacchini, a friend and direct witness of the painter from Gualtieri. Of remarkable intensity as well is Renato Guttuso’s 'Window and Work Table' (1961), a piece that serves as a genuine homage to Giorgio Morandi. Among the most refined figures in the catalog is Giulio Turcato, with 'Composition' (1961–1962), a masterpiece marking a turning point in his artistic exploration. The sculpture section features Giacomo Manzù.
