Maurizio Sarri did not mince words after Lazio’s loss to Inter Milan at San Siro. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the coach criticized what he sees as the decline in refereeing quality in Italian football. “The referee didn’t affect the result — Inter deserved to win,” Sarri said. “But it’s time to think about renting referees from abroad. The situation has become unbearable; I no longer see officials up to the task.” Sarri also explained the moment that sparked his frustration: “I lost my temper over a foul by Lautaro Martínez on Zaccagni — it was a clear yellow card. If he had booked him, Zaccagni wouldn’t have had to come off, and we wouldn’t have been left exposed on that flank. Even Padre Pio would have been angry.”
