Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized that her government will not implement a wealth tax, rejecting proposals raised during the budget debate. In a social media post, she reiterated the center-right's position: no tax on individual wealth, but support for families and businesses to stimulate growth. This position follows the proposal by CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) to implement a 1% solidarity contribution on substantial fortunes exceeding €2 million, intended to support healthcare, education, and employment initiatives. The issue has revived the political debate. The opposition criticizes the government for raising taxes, whereas the center-right promotes a policy centered on lowering the tax burden and offering investment incentives. The wealth tax, which has been the subject of cyclical debate, appears likely to remain one of the key grounds of contention between the government and the opposition in the budget debate.
