Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn. Bhd., a joint venture among PETRONAS, Enilive, and Euglena, has achieved a significant milestone in the development of its new biorefinery located in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia. The facility will have the capacity to process up to 650,000 tons per year of renewable raw materials to produce SAF-biojet (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), HVO diesel (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), and bio-naphtha. Feedstocks will consist of wastes, including used culinary oil and animal fats, as well as residues derived from vegetable oil processing. The new facility will be operating by the second half of 2028, according to the project schedule. Stefano Ballista, CEO of Enilive, stated: “In conjunction with the facilities already in operation in Italy and the United States, as well as those under development in Italy and South Korea, the new Pengerang biorefinery represents a significant advancement towards reaching, by 2030, a production capacity exceeding 5 million tonnes annually and over 2 million tonnes of SAF, thereby supporting the increasing demand for more sustainable mobility".
