The two-state solution for two peoples remains the sole viable approach to ensure an end to the conflict and sustain peace in the Middle East, as reaffirmed by President Sergio Mattarella and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during their meeting at the Quirinale Palace with the Head of State. "We must move forward with great concreteness in terms of humanitarian aid and Gaza reconstruction, as well as the establishment of two regional states. These aims necessitate Hamas disarming and the active participation of Arab countries. We must remove all obstacles to the two-state, two-people solution", Mattarella declared. The PNA leader reaffirmed the Palestinian National Authority's commitment to peace, the end of violence, and harmonious coexistence with Israel, while urging Israel to acknowledge Palestine as an independent and sovereign state. "We oppose war, terrorism, and bloodshed. We wish to live in our own state alongside Israel, which was recognized as a state and territory by the Oslo Accords in 1988 and 1993, respectively. Now Israel must recognize us as a state and territory", Abbas asserted.
