A moment of extraordinary intensity, an unprecedented encounter between spirituality and pop music. The Italian branch of Billboard magazine was received at the Vatican by Pope Leo XIV, who was presented with a symbolic plaque from Billboard Women in Music, emphasizing the significance of women's voices in the music industry and the importance of their continued recognition and acknowledgment. It's no accident that singer Laura Pausini was also present, receiving the prestigious Global Icon Award from Silvia Danielli, Billboard Italy's co-editor. This award is presented as part of Billboard Women in Music 2025 (held in Milan on November 25, 26, and 28) to the artist who, through her talent and dedication, has inspired and unified generations worldwide. "I've been a fan of hers since Sanremo", the Pope said of the singer, who rose to prominence in Italy at a young age after playing her song "La Solitudine" at the Italian Song Festival before conquering international charts and winning a Grammy Award in 2006. For her part, the singer sent the Pope a one-of-a-kind, unheard song, her interpretation of "Brother Sun, Sister Moon", from Saint Francis of Assisi's "Canticle of the Creatures", which praises universal brotherhood and God's praise through creation.
