Until Sunday, anyone can visit a bookstore and donate a book that will then be delivered to a school. The effort includes 29,000 schools, 350 nurseries, more than 4 million children and young people, and 4,061 bookstores. Since 2015, the Publishers' Association and the Ministry of Culture have supported the #ioleggoperché project, which has resulted in the donation of 3 million new books. One in five schools has reported the establishment or imminent establishment of a library as a result of this initiative, which involves publishers and the Ministry of Culture. However, even today in Italy—particularly in the South—one out of every six schools lacks a space where a youngster can find and explore a book. And, when libraries do exist, they frequently lack proper hours, staffing, and funding. When the donation week ends on 16 November, publishers participating in the initiative will take over as usual. They will contribute over 100,000 books, which will be added to those donated by citizens.
