Saturday, November 15th, was National Food Drive Day. In nearly 12,000 supermarkets throughout Italy, approximately 160,000 Food Bank volunteers, identifiable by their orange vests, promoted the purchase of non-perishable items such as oil, canned vegetables and legumes, tomato preserves and ready-made sauces, canned tuna and meat, baby food, and rice. The collected goods will then be distributed to more than 7,600 organizations, including soup kitchens for the poor, family homes, youth communities, listening centers and street units. The 2025 edition saw the participation of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who sent a donation. It is estimated that 5 million Italians contributed in some way. In Italy, since 2021 the cost of food has increased by more than 25%, a rise higher than the overall inflation rate.
