The Italian government remains divided regarding the provision of armaments to Ukraine. The twelfth military assistance package for Ukraine is nearing completion; however, as the issuance of the decree approaches, increasing disparities between Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini and the other parties within the majority are becoming more evident. This time, the leader of La Lega political party capitalized on the opportunity presented by the corruption case involving the two ministers of Justice and Energy, whose dismissals Zelensky has called for. "It seems to me that corruption scandals are emerging in Kiev", he told reporters, "so I wouldn't want the money of Italian workers and pensioners to fuel further corruption". "The solution", he continued, "is the one proposed by the Holy Father and Trump. Dialogue, reconciling Zelensky and Putin, and silencing the weapons. It is naïve to think that supplying weaponry means reclaiming lost ground". Defense Minister Guido Crosetto responded promptly: "I do not judge a country based on two corrupt individuals, just as Americans and British who arrived in Sicily did not judge Italy for the existence of the mafia, but came to assist fellow Italians, the honest ones. That is exactly what we do in Ukraine. And we hope that the Ukrainian criminals are jailed, along with the Russians if possible".
