One of the most contentious issues in Pompeii's history is the exact date of Vesuvius' explosion. Every historical period has yielded a different date for the eruption, from August 24th to November 23rd, including September 23rd, October 24th, 30th, 31st, and even November 1st, 79 AD. The confusion has emerged due to several plausible reasons. But are we certain we applied the proper research method in processing the archeological data? "It is often stated that there is an extensive debate regarding the date of Vesuvius's eruption, but thus far, it has predominantly consisted of a succession of monologues that have either supported or challenged one another. Before proposing a hypothesis, it is essential to engage in dialogue", emphasized Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, which will host an international conference on November 21st and 22nd dedicated to the date of the eruption of Vesuvius that buried Pompeii and the surrounding Vesuvius area. Scholars from diverse schools of thought and backgrounds (United States, Great Britain, Greece, Holland, Spain, Italy) were invited to examine Pliny's letter codes, the Earth's alignment with the stars in 79 AD, the climate, the handling of botanical and zoological discoveries, seasonal variations, the latest findings and new interpretations, numismatics, and the attire of the Pompeians during their final days.
