The Court of Auditors has once again halted the administrative proceedings for the Strait of Messina Bridge, refusing to approve the third supplementary document to the agreement between the Ministry of Infrastructure and the company Stretto di Messina Spa. The grounds for the decision will be made public within 30 days, along with an official resolution. The Court of Auditors issued a statement clarifying that it did not endorse the registration of the August 1, 2025, decree, which was signed by the Ministries of Infrastructure and Economy. This provision was part of the regulatory framework provided by the 2023 decree-law for the project's reactivation. This new halt represents a continuation of a longstanding history of relaunches, suspensions, and reinstatements. In recent years, the government has reactivated Stretto di Messina Spa and initiated technical and planning upgrades. It will now be required to evaluate whether the executive will intervene with additional clarifications or regulatory amendments to break the impasse.
