The regional elections in Puglia, scheduled for Sunday, November 23, and Monday, November 24, are among the most closely monitored political contests of the autumn season. The region has been under center-left governance for twenty consecutive years, initially with Nichi Vendola, subsequently with Michele Emiliano, and is now anticipating a potential transition to Antonio Decaro, former mayor of Bari and Member of the European Parliament representing the Democratic Party. On the other side is the center-right, led by civic candidate Luigi Lobuono, an entrepreneur and former president of the Fiera del Levante, and backed by national coalition parties. Along with them, two alternative candidates, Ada Donno and Sabino Mangano, round out the list of candidates, representing more radical or civic-minded voters. Polling data collected in the final days preceding the legal prohibition on polling indicates a relatively uniform assessment of the leading candidate. Specifically, all surveyed polling organizations concur on one key finding: Antonio Decaro maintains a substantial lead. And the Democrats are the dominant party.
