In Naples, a city where the alleyways seem to tell stories even with closed eyes, a festival is returning that overturns the very idea of “seeing” cinema. From November 27th to 29th, CasaCinema will host the second edition of CiAV - Cinema ad Alta Voce Fest, a one-of-a-kind event in Italy where sighted and blind audiences can share the same experience through their own senses. The atmosphere is characteristically Neapolitan, friendly, and welcoming. Upon entering the rooms, one encounters students, artists, families, and inquisitive visitors, all drawn by a fundamental question: what transpires when cinema is unburdened by visual representation? Screenings are supplemented with audio descriptions through MovieReading, while podcasts and audio dramas are experienced with eyes covered, ensuring that everyone—absolutely everyone—can engage with the content through their imagination. The event features well-known celebrities such as Ambra Angiolini, Lino Musella, and the Fontana sisters, but the main star is the city itself, which transforms into a laboratory of senses. Among the most highly anticipated new features is Breakfast in the Dark on November 29th, succeeded by a photography tour designed for the blind and visually impaired: cameras and smartphones document what the eyes cannot perceive, but the body can. In the corridors of CasaCinema, meanwhile, a silent reading of famous screenplays comes to life, followed by a silent disco led by sound designer Ghighi Di Paola.
