It seemed like an impossible mission. Without Jannik Sinner, the hero of recent Italian campaigns, and without Lorenzo Musetti, Italy arrived at the Davis Cup finals carrying the weight of expectations and the awareness of having fewer certainties than usual. Yet again, Filippo Volandri's team rewrote its own history. Italy secured its fourth Davis Cup championship, completing an impressive sequence of three consecutive victories. In Málaga, the Azzurri defeated Spain 2–0 thanks to victories by Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli, the protagonists of a memorable day. Berrettini began the final by defeating Carreno Busta in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) in just over an hour, demonstrating solidity and clarity in crucial moments. Then it was Cobolli's chance to finish the job with a performance of remarkable character: after a tough start against Munar, the young Italian rallied to win 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 after nearly three hours of battle. Following Austria and Belgium, Spain also capitulated to Filippo Volandri's team, with Bolelli and Vavassori resting for the day. But the final celebration brought an unexpected moment: amid cheers, hugs and chants, the iconic Davis Cup “salad bowl” trophy broke. As it was being passed between Bolelli and Vavassori, the upper part detached from the base and fell to the ground, causing a mix of embarrassment and laughter among players and staff.
