Maurizio Sella died last Saturday at the age of 83, having dedicated more than sixty years of his life to the bank founded by his family in 1866. He began his career as a teller at the bank and worked his way up through the ranks, eventually becoming CEO in 1974 and President of the holding company in 2000, steering the firm toward innovation while maintaining independence. From 1998 to 2006, he led the Italian Banking Association (ABI) and was instrumental in modernizing the Italian banking system. According to Chairman Antonio Patuelli, Sella blended "ethical rigor, culture, and an innovative spirit". Under his leadership, the organization expanded to 1.5 million clients and 6,700 staff. His son Pietro, who is now CEO, states that Sella continued to work until his final day, leaving behind "a profound moral legacy of trust and determination".
