The captain of the boat involved in a collision with another vessel along the Amalfi Coast in the summer of 2023, which resulted in the death of Adrienne Vaughan, a 45-year-old American tourist and manager of Bloomsbury Publishing, who was vacationing on the Amalfi Coast with her husband, Mike White, and their minor children, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison. Skipper Elio Persico, now 32, was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, and as a result, according to Salerno court judges, he participated in "improper" and dangerous behavior while at the helm of the gozzo. The boat transporting the American visitors collided with a sailboat hosting a party. Mrs. Vaughan, who had been sunbathing on the gozzo, was pushed down by the powerful hit, falling into the water. She was killed by the vessel’s propeller, in front of her family.
