In Italy, a man kept his mother's body hidden in his home for three years in order to continue receiving her pension. When her identity card expired, the man—a 57-year-old nurse—showed up at his local registry office disguised as a woman to renew it. To look like his mother, he wore a wig, women's clothing, and makeup. Staff, on the other hand, immediately recognized him as a guy and informed the local police. The case involves Borgo Virgilio, a small hamlet of roughly 15,000 people in the province of Mantua, northern Italy, near Milan. The individual is currently under investigation for the concealment of a corpse, impersonation, fraudulent activities against the Italian social security institution (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale, or INPS), and forgery. According to findings, the mother died from natural causes in 2022. Her son, who lives alone in the countryside, reportedly chose not to notify the woman's death in order to continue receiving her pension, which was deposited into his bank account. Everything stayed hidden until a few days ago, when the man discovered that his mother's identity document had expired and that payments would be blocked if not renewed. As a result, he arrived in the town hall disguised as a woman. The registry employee, suspicious, asked him to return the following day. When he did, officers were waiting for him. After being discovered, the man felt ill. The police then searched his home and discovered his mother's mummified body lying against a wall in the living room. Investigators suspect the man utilized his nursing expertise to drain fluids from the body and encourage mummification, which prevents decomposition. The man was somewhat unknown in the village, and no one had noticed anything peculiar in three years. The woman's remains have been brought to the morgue at the Carlo Poma Hospital in Mantua, where an autopsy will be performed to identify the exact cause and date of her death.
