Businesses and unions have renewed the metalworkers' labor agreement following 17 months of negotiations, which encompassed a 40-hour strike. It was the final major deal pending renewal, and it was signed after four days of relentless negotiations. The signing, which took place on Saturday afternoon in Rome, was met with extended applause from all union and business representatives present at the negotiations. The agreed-upon monthly increment, the primary point of dispute, is €205.32, representing a 9.64% increase. The renewal impacts approximately 1.5 million metalworkers and will be in force from January 2025 until June 2028. An experiment of shorter working hours will also be begun, with permanent employment guaranteed for 20% of temporary workers.
