Lorenzo Buffon, one of the most legendary goalkeepers in Italian soccer history, died at the age of 95 in Latisana, province of Udine, just a few days before his 96th birthday. Patricia, his only daughter, confirmed the news. Buffon is most notably recognized for his decade at AC Milan, spanning from 1950 to 1960, during which he played a pivotal role in securing five Serie A titles. His pincer hands and confidence between the posts established him as one of AC Milan's most prominent players in the 1950s, to such an extent that the club itself wished to honor him: "Lorenzo the Magnificent, an admirable man with a passionate Rossoneri heart, has left us. It is with deep emotion that we bid farewell to Lorenzo Buffon and honor his memory". Throughout his career, Buffon played for Inter, Fiorentina, and Genoa, as well as representing Italy internationally. His time with Inter was equally noteworthy: three seasons and 89 appearances with the Nerazzurri. Buffon and another goalkeeper, Giorgio Ghezzi of Inter, had a long-standing rivalry in Italian football throughout the 1950s. This competition increased the tension in the Milan derby. He was also well-known for his private life: in 1958, he married Edy Campagnoli, a popular Italian television presenter who co-hosted a successful quiz program with the even more famous Mike Bongiorno; nonetheless, the marriage ended in divorce. Buffon had recently risen to prominence due to an unusual familial connection: he was a second cousin of Gianluigi Buffon's grandfather, establishing the Buffon family as a true dynasty of Italian goalkeeping.
