The 19th International Architecture Exhibition “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.” curated by Carlo Ratti, has closed with 298,000 tickets sold (+5% compared to 2023), plus 17,584 visitors during the pre-opening days. It is now the most visited Architecture Biennale ever. 758 architects were invited to the International Exhibition, with 303 projects participating. The Architecture Biennale attracted 50% international tourists and 50% Italian visitors. Young adults and students under the age of 26 made up a considerable proportion of overall visitors, accounting for more than 84,000, or 28%. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement and the Special Golden Lion in Memory were awarded to American philosopher Donna Haraway and Italian architect, designer, and planner Italo Rota, who died on April 6, 2024. The awards were conferred by an international jury chaired by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Swiss curator, critic, and art historian; Paola Antonelli, Italian, Senior Curator of the Department of Architecture and Design and founding Director of Research and Development at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York; and Mpho Matsipa, South African architect, professor, and curator.
