An armed gang has carried out a high-stakes robbery on a motorway in southern Italy, escaping with an estimated two million euros after attacking a cash-in-transit vehicle in Calabria.
The assault took place inside a tunnel between the towns of Scilla and Bagnara Calabra, heading north. The attackers ambushed the armored van, firing shots during the operation, though no one was injured.
To block any intervention, the gang torched two vehicles on the road and scattered metal spikes across the tarmac, completely stopping traffic and isolating the area.
Firefighters and police quickly secured the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities are now searching for the suspects, who vanished before officers could reach the site.
The raid, carried out with military-style precision, is one of the most serious highway robberies reported in the region in recent years.
