Danilo Gallinari has decided to say goodbye to playing basketball. He did so in an emotional and grateful video uploaded on social media, in which he said goodbye to a career that brought him from Italy to the NBA, passing through Europe, between successes, injuries, rebirths, and personal accomplishments. Gallinari was born in 1988 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano and began his basketball career at Olimpia Milano. He quickly established himself as one of the brightest talents in the Italian basketball scene, winning the Serie A MVP and Best Young European Player awards in 2008. That same year, the NBA called: chosen by the New York Knicks, he embarked on a long adventure overseas, wearing jerseys for the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio Spurs, and Milwaukee Bucks. In 777 NBA games, he scored over 11,600 points and averaged 14.9 a game. His most recent official appearance was with the national team at Eurobasket in September, and he also won a title in Puerto Rico with the Vaqueros de Bayamón last summer. Gallinari, who comes from a family of basketball legends—his father Vittorio was a symbol of the famous Milan club during the Dan Peterson era—ends a two-decade journey. "I'm grateful for every step of this journey", he remarked during his parting speech to fans. Now the next chapter begins for him.
