A letter signed by 80 Italian authors and publishers urges the administrators of "Più Libri Più Liberi"—the prominent annual event held in Rome—to address the inclusion of "neo-fascist" literature at the fair. An appeal signed by Zerocalcare, Alessandro Barbero, and Antonio Scurati, among others, concerns the presence of the publishing house Passaggio al Bosco. "As authors, publishing houses, and, of course, people who attend cultural events in this country, we were surprised to discover that, among the stands of the small and medium-sized publishing fair 'Più Libri Più Liberi', this year there is space for ‘Passaggio al Bosco,’ a publishing house whose catalogue largely centers on the glorification of experiences and figures belonging to the Nazi-fascist and antisemitic pantheon", the letter reads. The authors and publishers therefore inquire, "How can it be that, despite respecting every political orientation, this type of publication was considered compatible with the regulations endorsed by all publishers?" From the Italian Publishers Association, Innocenzo Cipolletta, responded: "The AIE does not select who can or cannot participate; we do not admit publishers based on their editorial policies. However, we require them to sign a contract explicitly committing to 'adhering to all the values expressed in the Italian Constitution, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.' We will remind 'Passaggio al Bosco' that, like all exhibitors, it is responsible for the commitments it has undertaken and for ensuring that the statements in the signed contract align with the content of the books it presents at the fair".
