The Italian Chamber of Deputies has approved a series of amendments to the education bill proposed by Minister Giuseppe Valditara, including a measure put forward by the Lega party regarding sexual education in schools.
The main change applies to middle schools, which are now treated like high schools: sexual education may be conducted only with parental consent for minor students. Preschool and primary school levels remain excluded from these programs.
The bill had faced a temporary halt in early November after a heated debate in the chamber, when Minister Valditara clashed with opposition parties. During the session on November 12, tensions escalated, with the minister accusing some groups of “exploiting a sensitive issue such as femicide” to attack the legislation.
Following the pause, parliamentary work resumed, and the amendments were approved, marking progress in the bill’s legislative process.
