Pier Paolo Pasolini and Martin Scorsese. Two iconic filmmakers, intellectuals as different as they are significant, who on 5 December will somehow be in the same place. It will take place in Rome, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, designed by Renzo Piano, in a unique event celebrating the legacy of the Roman poet, writer, and director fifty years after his murder. The event's title is "The Immediate Sacred. The Gospel According to Pasolini". Father Antonio Spadaro, a theologian and journalist, will join Scorsese via a video link. The program will provide an opportunity to investigate the expressive, prophetic power, and timeliness of "The Gospel According to Matthew", a 1964 film written and directed by Pasolini that significantly influenced cinematographer Martin Scorsese and Father Antonio Spadaro. The discussion will examine the relationship between cinema, spirituality, and personal memory, also linking Pasolini's directorial decisions, his concept of immediacy, and the fusion of realism and poetry, alongside Scorsese's cultural background and his insights into violence, the ethical considerations of images, and the introspective aspect of the creative process.
