EssilorLuxottica has pioneered the development of Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses and has established a significant partnership with Meta; however, it now encounters intense competition from China. Alibaba, the Chinese online commerce giant, has officially debuted its new artificial intelligence glasses, known as "Quark AI Glasses", in China. The simplest variant of the high-tech accessory, which makes use of Alibaba's "Qwen" AI technology, costs 1,899 yuan (about €230). In recent months, two other Chinese companies, Xiaomi and Baidu, have introduced their own versions of AI-powered glasses. The most recent entrants, however, are assigned a particular priority: distribution. Alibaba's glasses have been available on key Chinese e-commerce platforms since last Thursday, including fashion sites such as Tmall, JD.com, and Douyin. Alibaba stated that the glasses will be connected with its apps, including Alipay and Taobao, allowing users to access services like real-time translation on the fly and rapid price identification.
