In Genoa, the Museo del Mare formally inaugurates its new Colombo Room to the public, a redesigned exhibition that provides a modern interpretation of the Genoese explorer and the significant changes resulting from his expeditions to the Americas and beyond. The display, which is divided into seven themed divisions, depicts Columbus' roots, the development of his project, his onboard instruments, his conquest, and the environmental and cultural implications of cross-continental encounter. The show includes multimedia projections and interactive installations, as well as artistic and cultural treasures (such as Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio's iconic portrait, genuine documents, and two of Columbus' autographs). It is the most extensive, inclusive, and exhaustive overview of a pivotal period in world history. The redesign was made possible by collaboration with the State Archives of Genoa and Savona, the Natural History Museum of Genoa, the Museum of Civilizations of Rome, and the National Museum of Italian Emigration.
