Italy continues to be a preferred destination for international travelers during the Christmas holiday season. The Bel Paese attracts visitors from all over the world, from art capitals to the mountains, and some even take a few days to relax on the seaside. According to the most recent projections from ENIT, the Italian National Tourism Agency, 4 million foreign airport tourists have already booked flights between December and January, spending a total of €3.5 billion (to these travelers will be added those arriving via other carriers). Specifically, 2.4 million international airport arrivals will be recorded in December, indicating a 6.1% increase over Christmas 2024. This upward trend will continue in January 2026, with 1.9 million arrivals already booked at Italian airports (+4.4% compared to January 2025). These findings put Italy ahead of countries like France and Turkey, and second only to Spain. Spain (611,000 airport arrivals), the United Kingdom (about 585,000), France (328,000), and Germany (308,000) are among the top markets for Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations in Italy. Arrivals from Poland, Albania, Romania, the Netherlands, and Belgium are also increasing. Milan (1.6 million arrivals at city airports) and Rome (1.2 million) are the most popular destinations, followed by Venice (almost 500,000 tourists), Naples, and Bologna.
