Italy’s car market showed no signs of recovery in November. New registrations totaled 124,222 vehicles—essentially unchanged from a year earlier. From January to November, sales were down 2.4% compared to 2024, amounting to 1.417 million units. The gap with pre-pandemic levels remains stark: about 359,000 fewer cars than in 2019, a 20% drop. According to UNRAE, the association of foreign automakers operating in Italy, the sector’s chronic weakness requires structural change. The group is calling for a major reform of the tax system for company cars, including higher VAT deductibility, greater cost deductions, and shorter depreciation periods to stimulate the shift toward zero-emission mobility.
