Italy's space economy produced €8 billion, employed slightly over 23,000 people, and added €2 billion, or 0.1 percent of GDP. The space economy production chain employs little over 14,000 people and generates €4.1 billion in production and €1.3 billion in value added. Exports totaled €2.1 billion, with €1.8 billion attributable to upstream sectors. Imports total 1.6 billion, 1.2 billion of which generated by the production supply chain. The data were released at the event "Towards a thematic account of the space economy in Italy. Methodology and first evidence", a collaboration between the National Institute of Statistics and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to collect data on the characteristics of space industry enterprises and their economic impact.
