The National Consumers' Union conducted its traditional Christmas spending study, forecasting the top 10 Christmas sales for 2025 using ISTAT data on retail sales by value rather than conventional surveys. Toys win, placing first among Christmas purchases, as is customary. Personal care products such as fragrances, aftershaves, cosmetics, face and body creams, and makeup kits are ranked second. Stationery products (books, calendars, pens, diaries, and postcards), which are commonly given as gifts by companies, rank second. Durable and non-durable household products, such as kitchen utensils, glassware, porcelain, and ceramics, are just outside the top three. Footwear, Leather Goods, and Travel Goods (including luggage, bags, wallets, leather belts, and so on) are ranked fifth, the highest since the ranking was first published in 2016. They are followed by IT, telephone, and telecommunications equipment (cell phones, cordless phones, computers, tablets, e-book readers, computer furniture, printers, electronic games, and so on), as well as household appliances like TVs, electric coffee makers, toasters, electric shavers, vacuum cleaners, clock radios, video cameras, washing machines, and dishwashers. Photo-optics and musical instruments (cameras, binoculars, microscopes, telescopes) rank eighth, followed by Other Products (jewelry, watches, flowers and plants, picture frames, gold or silver items). Clothing and furs (including non-leather gloves, belts, and ties) complete the top 10.
