This year, average monthly household spending on culture has risen to over €100, up from €94.6 in 2024 and €83.2 in 2023. However, the regional disparity is widening: €113 is spent in the North vs €74 in the South. The most prevalent cultural activities in 2025 include watching television shows and films (92%), listening to music (84%), and reading books (68%). Among live activities, the most favored are visits to museums and archaeological sites (49%), cinema (45%), outdoor performances (48%), concerts (36%), and cultural festivals (29%). According to the Osservatorio di Impresa Cultura Italia's report on Italian cultural consumption, reading continues to play an important role, with 76% of Italians reading at least one printed book in 2025 and 52% reading an e-book, confirming the clear advantage of the printed format. At the same time, online news consumption is increasing: 74% have read free digital newspapers from websites, while 50% continue to read traditional newspapers and 30% employ paid apps. Culture is progressively recognized as a valuable opportunity for education and personal development: in 2025, 50% of Italians regard cultural engagement as significant, compared to 45% in December 2024. The percentage of people who consider culture crucial to their well-being is also expanding, reaching 15%, while the percentage of those who see it as "a cost" stays at 11% and the percentage of those who see it as "an activity like many others" has dropped to 9%.
