"The bond between Genoa and the nautical world is incredibly strong, enhanced by Confindustria Nautica's organization of the sector's main representative event, the Genoa Boat Show, hosted in the city. Being a show organized by the industry association is a strategic asset, as is being held in the heart of a region where the nautical industry plays an important role in the local economy as a whole." These are the words of Marina Stella, Director General of Confindustria Nautica and the linchpin of a system now universally recognized as a jewel of Made in Italy. Confindustria Nautica is the non-profit association that since 1967 has represented the recreational boating industries and businesses, working to develop the nautical sector, and promoting maritime culture and the development of nautical tourism in Italy. But what economic impact does the Show have on the city and the Liguria region? "The Show is not just a showcase but also a moment to take stock of the global economy, the sector, and its issues. We've calculated that in just the six days of the event, the economic impact on the region is approximately €50 million from visitors alone and €72 million including exhibitor investments. But we're only talking about the six days and everything that happens outside the Show. But the Show is much more. It represents an industry that is also a cultural vehicle because it promotes a new, much more conscious approach to using the sea and its resources. It's a moment to discuss and debate major economic issues—sustainability, training, innovation—and that's precisely why it received the patronage of the EU Commission." "There are exhibitors from 45 countries and 1,245 journalists from 35 countries. This is a moment when the region becomes an international showcase for Italian know-how," he concluded. The Genoa International Boat Show is one of the world's leading pleasure boating fairs. It began in January 1962 as a small industry exhibition.
